Girls Gone Wild files for bankruptcy While Steve Wynn Tries to Collect Money Owed To Him

Girls Gone Wild company has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

The 39-year-old Joe Francis and his  company owes more than $16 million in disputed claims, according to multiple reports.

The filing was made in an effort to keep Las Vegas hotel boss Steve
from securing the company’s assets to satisfy a $10.3 million
gambling debt lawsuit.

The hotel mogul was awarded a $7.5 million judgment for defamation
in 2007 after Francis claimed the casino tycoon threatened to kill him. A
jury later awarded Wynn an additional $20 million for punitive damages
for slander.

Steve Wynn Continues To Raise The Bar in Las Vegas with Wynn and Encore Properties

From his humble beginnings running his family’s Bingo Parlor business, it was clear early on Steve Wynn was a visionary with big dreams! A small stake in the Frontier, then controlling interest in Golden Nugget, eventually led him to open the $630 million Mirage  in 1989. Siegfried and Roy were the most famous entertainment in the world at the time and put on retainer with the hotel for an unprecedented fee and the strip got it’s first volcano!

Next came Treasure Island at a mere $450 million. A live pirate show and the Mystere Cirque du Soleil show  was the first permanent Cirque du Soleil show in Las Vegas.

Wynn had bigger  dreams however. He was just getting warmed up. Next up $1.6 billion luxury casino resort Bellagio. Inspired by the Lake Como resort of Bellagio in Italy, Bellagio is famed for its elegance. 8 acres. An artificial lake, synchronized dancing fountains,  indoor conservatory, a museum-quality art gallery and branches of high-end boutiques and restaurants from Paris, San Francisco, and New York City. Oh yeah, and a 2,000 square foot  Dale Chihuly ceiling in the lobby!

Mirage was sold for $6.6 billion to MGM. With the money he made on that deal, and with his ability to secure ever-greater financing, Steve Wynn took Wynn Resorts Limited public in 2002. (stock was available for a mere $29 last summer. Currently it is trading for about $90).

In 2005 Wynn opened the $2.7 billion flagship property Wynn Las Vegas. It was the largest privately-funded construction project in the nation. This compares with the budget for reconstruction with the World Trade Center site which at that time was projected to be $1.7 billion.

215 acres. 2700+ rooms. I thought he was done. But he wasn’t quite done. Wynn had plans for a second building, Encore. At $2.3 billion, he added another 2,000+ rooms.

The entire Wynn resort complex has a total of 4,750 rooms. At first glance people think the Encore is just an expansion of the flagship Wynn Las Vegas.

But this LUXURIOUS recent addition  sets a distinctive stage with its 2,034 suites, all with floor-to-ceiling windows.

The Resort Suites offers style with a comfortable, residential feel: A range from 700 to 745 square feet with floor-to-ceiling windows, Wynn signature beds with European linens (all the bedding is available for purchase , including the bed, which was quite heavenly!), 42” or 46” flat-panel televisions featuring on-demand movies, State-of-the-art office equipment, one touch climate controls, a fully stocked mini bar and in-room safes. Bathrooms include 19’ flat-screen television, dual sinks, sitting areas with lighted vanity mirrors, separate shower and soaking tub, and Signature Wynn Resorts robes and slippers. The hotel tower features two sections: standard Resort tower as well as the smaller, more upscale Tower Suites. Tower Suites can range from 1,400 square feet up to 3 bedroom apartments.

The beautiful vision Wynn brings to Las Vegas is done with the help of  a  gay man. Roger Thomas, Wynn’s gay executive vice president of design,  and the designer responsible for the Bellagio, the Wynn, and the Encore hotel, recently spoke to the Advocate . In the article,  he reflects on a life with business partner Steve Wynn, his retirement and how his aesthetic transformed the face of Las Vegas forever.

As any good designer will tell, it’s all about the details. Roger is often  caught moving various art objects to the precise spaces on tables where he wants them. “Most of the housekeeping crew, I’ve trained them and gone over it, and we’ve done photographs, but it’s very difficult,” he says, exasperated. “So I walk through the hotel all the time rearranging accessories.”

Thomas didn’t need to school the Wynns on gay sensitivity. The Wynn’s are friends with the likes of David Geffen and Sandy Gallin. But after Steve Wynn asked his executives to donate to the reelection of George W. Bush in 2004, Thomas leveraged the favor by urging Wynn to provide domestic-partner benefits for the company’s employees. (Wynn Resorts received 100 Percent on Human Rights Campaigns Corporate Equality Index ).

Wynn and Thomas seem to have a comfortable gay-straight patter. Thomas will mock his boss when they disagree by saying, “I know you feel that way because you’re straight. You can’t help it. You were born that way, and nobody’s perfect.” For Wynn’s part, on a pre-opening tour of Encore, the mogul pointed out female nude figures ensconced in gold along the walls of the nightclub XS. When asked whose idea that was, Wynn cracked, “Roger Thomas, if ya can believe that!”

The two stunning properties are connected by a 27,000-square-foot shopping esplanade  that showcases an eclectic best-of-the-best. Rock & Republic, Hermès, Chanel… Roger Thomas, spent three years perusing shops, markets, and auctions in Paris, Florence, Venice, New York, and Hong Kong to create Encore’s one-of-a-kind environments: The five-foot-tall pairs of white wall sconces at the north and west entrances were originally made for a 1928 Cap d’Antibes hotel; the casino’s crimson chandeliers are fashioned from mouth-blown Venetian Rubino glass; the baccarat pavilion’s playing-card still lifes date to 1930s France. Check out the Wynn-Encore Home Store .

Wynn is never quite finished with a project and always tweaking and tinkering with his properties.  Construction began on the Encore Beach Club last fall. The EBC  and Surrender Nightclub, located in the former Encore porte-cochere, opened last week.  The project, which also includes outdoor seating for Switch restaurant, cost an estimated $67 million.

The 60,000-square-foot Encore Beach Club will be a 21-and-over pool complex. The pool will feature 26 cabanas, eight two-story, 350-square-foot bungalows, a restaurant and poolside blackjack and craps.

Connected to the Encore Beach Club will be Surrender Nightclub. The 5,000 square-foot Nightclub will open to the outdoors as the weather permits. DJ Steve Aoki will be the resident DJ at Surrender. The Encore Beach Club will be open Monday through Thursday from noon to 7 p.m. and Friday through Saturday beginning at 10 A.M.

LE REVE at Wynn Las Vegas is a Must – See Show!

A Cirque du Soleil style show  called  LE  REVE !

Created by DRAGONE, presented exclusively at Wynn Las Vegas.

Franco Dragone worked with Cirque du Soleil for 15 years,  putting his personal stamp on the Cirque brand, redefining the notion of circus, founding the artistic soul of the Company, and creating some of the most beloved and highly regarded shows in all of modern theatre. The first of these shows, appropriately enough, was called Le Cirque Reinvente (The Circus Reinvented, 1987), and it was followed by La Magie Continue (1989), Nouvelle Experience (1990), Saltimbanco (1992), Mystère (1993), Alegria (1994), Quidam (1996), ‘O’ (1998), and La Nouba (1999).

In 2000, having created multiple spectacularly successful shows back-to-back, Dragone did what many would have thought the unthinkable; he left Cirque du Soleil. It was time to go on his own, he wanted to grow artistically without any limitations.    The result is  Le Reve!  Imagine if  Busby Berkeley were alive today and had an unlimited budget.

The proof that Dragone’s name could stand on it’s own was affirmed when Steve Wynn hand-picked him to create the flagship show for his new resort, Wynn Las Vegas. On the heels of Wynn’s request, Celine Dion approached him to create a permanent show in Las Vegas that fused her world of music with Dragone’s artistic genius of theatre.

Today, the new company, DRAGONE, has launched two of the largest productions in the history of the Las Vegas Strip: Celine Dion’s A New Day, at Caesars Palace, and Le Rêve, at Wynn Las Vegas. Millions more people have now seen Dragone’s visionary productions and experienced a style of theatre that, in an age of blunt messages and blatant marketing, invites the audience to think—and, even more than that, to dream.

Wynn Las Vegas and DRAGONE have redefined the traditional theatrical experience with “Le Rêve” (The Dream), the evocative aqua spectacle in-the-round. It is an acrobatic, aquatic show featuring  amazing sculptured bodies, thrills, haunting music, a beautiful theater, and spectacular dazzling effects.  The show features an ambitious blend of aerial acrobatics, provocative choreography and outrageous antics from the colorful characters. “Le Rêve” is a unique entertainment experience with elaborate effects and powerful performances that conjure an imaginary world, at once intensely beautiful and breathtaking. It is our  favorite show in Las Vegas!

The international cast of more than 90 athletes (mostly male, stunningly fit,  wearing very little clothing and also wet from head to toe) and entertainers captures the imagination with their strength and agility. From a thrilling high-dive to synchronized swimmers doing the tango in red high heels, “Le Rêve” is captivating from beginning to end. Throughout the show, comedy and dance interweave with sexy athleticism for an awe-inspiring, jaw-dropping experience. It’s like a beautiful vivid technicolor dream…..but your eyes are wide open!

Speaking of the athletes and their scultped bodies, artisitic director Brian Burke says, “It’s a brand new show every performance, so you learn how many times the performers can do those things per week and what the injuries are like. In this show, there are a lot of shoulder things because there’s a lot of hanging. We worked with the music composer Benoit Jutras with the music. I also worked on integrating the ballroom part of the show with Maksim Aleksandrovich from Dancing With The Stars so we did that together. [Production Designer] Michael Crete put a lot of elements like the flowers that you see and the fans. I’m really in charge of directing any new element that comes in with that design. I’ve gotten to work with the world’s best designers, plus working with the videos, the timing of the show, the pacing of the show and the story that we have.

A lot of people in the beginning had been in O, but a lot of people have actually not done a show like this before. We actually find a lot of people who have been to the Olympics, or are pre-Olympics, or didn’t qualify. Most people actually don’t train to do a show like that so we train the performers to do a lot of it here. So they have a talent like ballroom dancing or they are an aerial artist or they’re an acrobat and we train them to do the act and the other disciplines and that’s why it takes a long time.

Obviously, we hire based on the specialties. We have to find people in the States that could be technically qualified and then they are trained for about six months. We have 91 performers in the show but not every tableau has 91 people, so we do a rotation. We have a rule that nobody can do more than four major cues in a show because we found that we were having too many injuries. It also keeps the artists interested in doing the show because every night they come in and do a different show or they can learn a solo. For an artist, it’s a great show to be in because we’re always evolving the show and they never come in and do just one thing.

We have a full-time training staff and a training room and every six months they have to do a strength test and if they don’t qualify they have to be taken out of the show. We’ve created a physical test that they have to be able to do to maintain so that they know they can carry people in the air. A lot of our performers… some of harnessed in and some are just free grip. Strength is key. Before you do anything, you have to climb a rope, you have to do leg bends… there’s a strength regimen that you have to go through to pass the audition first and then we see you dance and move and improv. If you’re not strong enough, you just can’t maintain it.”

Since it’s opening in 2005, the show continues to be tweaked and chaged all the time.  The gorgeous theater  originally help 2087 seats. It  has been redesigned into an intimate showplace and  reduced to only 1606, with no seat more than twelve rows from the stage. The theater itself was repainted in warmer tones and given new, roomier seats and more plush surroundings. On top of all this they have created what they call a Champagne Circle where 100  guests sit in custom chairs sipping Perrier Jouet  champagne, chocolate covered strawberries, gourmet chocolate truffles, generously-scaled lounge seating, and video monitors which provide behind-the-scenes glimpses preparations in the locker rooms before the show, underwater and up-close imagery of the action during the show. PLUS, VIP package holders will experience the prestige of exclusive opportunities at Wynn Las Vegas with a “Privileged Access” pass for dining and entertainment on the day of the performance.

This V.I.P. treatment is worth the additional bucks.  I have seen the show from each of the three sections. There are no bad seats. And each seat gives you different vantage points, so it’s like seeing a new show everytime.

Ticket prices are $99 (Splash Zone- first two rows, I loved it here, you are SO CLOSE to the performers!),
$129 (Premium Seating) and $179 (VIP IndulgencePackage), plus service change and tax.
The show schedule is 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday.
The show is dark (no performances) on  Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Steve Wynn – Up On The Roof at ENCORE

Steve Wynn
has continually raised  the bar in Las Vegas. I had the honor of meeting Mr. Wynn at the Grand Opening Party for Siegfried and Roys Secret Garden  at the Mirage in 1997. I was lucky enough to work for  Siegfried and  Roy  as a freelance  writer for 8 years, up until Roy’s unfortunate accident.

After the Miarge, Wynn went on to develop  BELLAGIO, then  WYNN, and most recently  ENCORE! Everytime outdoing himself! On our most recent trip to Las Vegas, we were able to stay at Encore. And on the TV in the room, you see this  video of what appears to be Mr. Wynn, sitting ON TOP of  Encore!  It must be a blue screen, you say to yourself!

Often it’s the question on the tip of every guest’s tongue from the moment he or she checks in, asked of bellmen and bartenders, front-desk clerks and dining reservationists: “Was Steve really up there?”

The answer—whether you’re speaking of Wynn or Encore, it should be noted—is an unequivocal yes. Steve Wynn did indeed stand, and then later sit, atop the roof of each of his resorts for the filming of their respective commercials. No stuntmen, no stand-ins, no computer-generated trickery was needed or requested; from the moment the idea was conceptualized, Wynn was passionate about performing this “stunt” himself, knowing the “did he or didn’t he?” element would inspire plenty of conversation. And so in the first spot, which debuted months before his eponymous resort opened in April 2005, Steve Wynn stood on the roof and announced, “This is my new hotel, the only one I’ve ever signed my name to,” before the camera, mounted on a helicopter, pulled back to reveal the glistening bronze building.

Given the considerable buzz surrounding the first ad, Wynn knew that Encore’s commercial, which debuted just prior to the resort’s December 2008 opening, had to take the concept to a new level. Wynn enlisted director Brett Ratner, best known for the Rush Hour series and X-Men: The Last Stand, and together the pair conceived the idea of sitting Wynn on the very precipice of Encore, 48 stories and 675 feet in the air, his legs dangling over the edge at the highest point of his now-signature swoop. Ultimately, Wynn knew he had to up the ante for his Encore announcement, and we’re sure you’ll agree that he succeeded!

Steve Wynn marked the opening of Encore Macau , his new, all-suites boutique hotel in Macau, with a fireworks spectacular yesterday.

Steve lit the first fuse in Macau to start the display at exactly 8:08 p.m Friday evening, the number for success and good fortune, illuminating the skies above Encore and its sister resort Wynn Macau in an extravagant 10-minute performance.

Thousands of people stood along the Nam Van Lake and Taipa shoreline to witness the production!
