Gay Marriage in Las Vegas Nevada
Vegas just got more fabulous!
The Las Vegas Convention and Tourism Authority took to Facebook this week, celebrating the news of marriage equality coming to Nevada. The group posted the photo of the iconic “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign, modified with a hint of rainbow and captioned with, “Vegas just got more fabulous.”
Las Vegas is known as much for its weddings as it is for its casinos. With an average of nearly 100,000 marriage licenses issued annually, Las Vegas is recognized as the world’s wedding capital. Whether it’s eloping on a secret rendezvous, or planning an elaborate ceremony for hundreds of your family and friends, there is no place quite like Vegas to make it official.
Nevada and Idaho had joined the growing number of states where same-sex marriage is legal when the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled Tuesday that gay couples’ equal protection rights were violated by the gay marriage bans in both states.
Lambda Legal Staff Attorney Tara Borelli, via press release:
“Finally, the confusion has ended and the Ninth Circuit’s decision is final and fully in effect. While the trial court will enter an order in the case finalizing relief, nothing prevents marriages from beginning immediately for same-sex couples in Nevada.”
